15 Natural Remedies for Thicker Fuller Hair

In PART ONE of this blog, we covered the most common reasons for female hair loss. Now we’re going to deliver 15 of the best natural remedies, allowing you to slow and stop hair loss, and even regrow hair in many cases to help you retain your natural beauty. First, we’ll recap the cause of the hair loss/thinning in each subheader, and then cover the remedy.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by low thyroid

When it comes to thyroid issues, it’s best to consult with a functional nutrition practitioner, like Diane that specializes in working with thyroid problems. She can help you order a full thyroid blood panel to identify or rule out potential causes. It may be something as simple as micronutrient deficiencies caused by low selenium or zinc, or you could have autoimmune thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s thyroiditis).  Diane had this, and reversed her auto immune disease, as has she with many clients she’s worked with. 1. Solution for hair loss caused by low iron or lysine

If this is the cause of your hair falling out, it’s important you measure your ferritin levels, which will help you gauge how much iron is in the body. A minimum of 40 is necessary to grow new hair, while a healthy range should be in the 70-80 range. If your ferritin readings come out too low (this is the norm today, sadly) supplement your iron intake with plenty of grass-fed red meat, greens, eggs, raw cheese (especially Parmesan), and some fish (cod, sardines) to increase iron and lysine intake.  For added insurance, I recommend clients take THIS BLEND since it has many things hair follicles love, starting from the immune system up.  It’s packed with Vitamin A, B12, C, zinc, lysine and adrenal support for hormone harmony.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by Androgenic alopecia

This is where I like a couple of different things topically.  Evening primrose oil can help reverse Androgenic alopecia (which is caused by high levels of DHT, a male androgen hormone that causes follicles to shrink), supplying essential fatty acids your body craves for healthy hair growth. You can open up a capsule or buy some in a bottle to apply to your problem zones. Another DIY solution I LOVE blending for clients involves essential oils and probiotics. I’m picky about quality as it’s important to buy low chemical products with high potency ingredients, so you a) don’t waste money and b) your end result is closer (I know, I’m impatient too, so I’ve got you girl!  Remember: the better the products, the quicker the outcome).  I’m a doTERRA essential oil rep so if these oils interest you, let me know and I’ll hook you up with our Warrior discount (25% off and beyond).  You can READ MORE HERE.

Try this recipe here.  Rosemary is one of the best oils for enhancing hair growth, which thickens the hair. It is believed to increase cellular metabolism that stimulates hair growth. Cedarwood essential oil can help stimulate the hair follicles by increasing circulation to the scalp, contributing to hair growth and slowing hair loss! Cedarwood is a great remedy for thinning hair and various types of alopecia, too.  One fun trick is to add the contents of one probiotic capsule to the formula too (you’ll read why later).  Add all of the ingredients to a small 2 oz glass pump bottle (amber or blue to preserve ingredients), shake, then apply.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by protein deficiency

Just like the issue of low iron we covered above, a protein deficiency is simply combatted by eating plenty of clean, healthy sources certain fish, grass-fed meat, eggs, some cheese, greens, and quinoa.  When traveling or if you’re a blend and go kind of girl, I recommend drinking protein drinks such as the LOVE MY HORMONES shake I created that is PACKED full of hair loving ingredients.  Also, THIS is one of the 4 protein powders I use (quality of ingredients is key, as you don’t want to add insult to injury by increasing your toxic load…pick one with the fewest ingredients possible, like THIS ONE.)

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by an excess of vitamin A

To make sure you’re not getting too much vitamin A, try to ingest no more than 5,000 International Units (IU) per day, which will result in natural hair regrowth if that was the issue.  This is more of a rare case, but can be solution for some.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by too much physical or emotional stress

Whether you try mediation, yoga, exercise, deep breathing, or any other methods to ease the intense stressors in your life, within three to six months you’ll likely experience hair regrowth as your body reaches normal levels of telogen effluvium (A reversible condition in which hair falls out after a stressful experience.)  Try one of my YOGA CLASSES, then laying in meditation for 5 minutes after.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by fluctuating female hormones due to pregnancy, perimenopause, or birth control pills

If your body is experiencing excessive stress during pregnancy, take measures to balance and stabilize your hormones to stop hair loss. If you start losing more hair postpartum, TALK TO DIANE so she can help you run the appropriate blood panels and labs to check for a hidden thyroid or autoimmune issues as well as the root causes for it. If you’re taking the birth control pill and experiencing hair loss, you might want to try different more natural options. Birth control is AWFUL (read my story HERE) and depletes B vitamins, which are essential for hair growth.  This happens both while you’re on birth control as well as several years after getting off of it.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by Menopause

For some women over forty, bio-identical estrogen may be a good fit for menopausal hair loss. Creams are not as effective as sublingually administered herbs, so it’s IMPORTANT you take the best ones for you, so as not to create more of a problem in the liver (creams tend to be harder to break down, rendering most of the remnants in the liver, creating further hormone imbalance). As such, make sure to take this only under the supervision of a health professional to make sure you’re safe and free of adverse effects. Additionally, I do not recommend taking these long term (over 1 year) so have an ‘exit strategy’ in place, ideally you take them for only a few months to use as a bridge, while also boosting the function of the hormone manufacturing plants in the brain (pituitary and hypothalamus).  Diane can help you with this, as she creates and sells bio identical hormones in her practice.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by a vitamin B deficiency

You should be able to address a deficiency in vitamin B just by adding plenty of B-rich meat, fish, starchy vegetables, and certain fruits to your diet.  B vitamin deficiency is SUPER COMMON among women today, especially who take or have taken birth control.  How do you know you’re low in B?  You’re tired…a lot.  So we can love on two birds with one stone! Hair and energy?  YES!  I referred to the supplement I love that covers B and more, HERE it is again.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by a lack of essential fats

Once again, focus on getting plenty of “good” fats in your diet with coconut products, avocado, nuts, and other sources – your hair will love you for it!  Hormones are made of fat and proteins…so if you want to destroy your hair health potential, go on a fat free diet 😉  Avocados - 15 natural cures for hair loss

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by autoimmunity

If you have tried the diet-first approach to your hair loss and think you might have autoimmune thyroiditis, TALK TO DIANE about treatment options, including certain foods you can eat to help as well as many detox strategies you can employ to expel the toxins that are causing the problems. NOTE:  Diane reversed her AID, Hashimoto’s Hypothyroid…and she’s helped hundreds of other warriors do the same!  YES, it’s possible…don’t let your doctor tell you otherwise (they’re not taught it’s a disease that can be healed in med school).

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by the medications you’re taking

In part one of this blog we outlined just a few of the common medications, prescriptions, and over-the-counter items that can wreak havoc on your hair. If one of these seems to be the cause of your hair loss, talk to your medical professional about safer, natural alternatives. ESPECIALLY thyroid medications like Synthroid.  There are healthier alternatives to bridge the gap between producing more thyroid hormone via medications and reversing thyroid disease permanently, such as Naturethroid or Armour.  Also, if you have an Auto Immune disease, ask your doctor about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), a medication which supports the Immune System with lesser side effects than other harsh Immune Prescriptions like Prednisone, which don’t do wonders for hair growth, because they turn off the immune system whereas LDN wakes it back up, boosting beauty and anti aging.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by overdoing hair care and products

Simply cut back on the number of times you wash and treat your hair every week. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that you let your hair air dry while limiting flat irons and curling irons to once per week or less. If that was the problem that was causing follicle damage, your hair should start to regrow gradually.

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by insulin resistance and blood sugar problems

Revamp your diet by cutting out the sugars, artificial sweeteners, and the rest of the junk. Add a healthy diet and start getting plenty of exercise and you’ll experience a reverse in insulin resistance that allows you to grow healthy hair again. We take out all the guessing and hard work for you in The Warrior Cleanse, a go at your own pace, DIY program that teaches you how to not only get the healthiest, most beautiful hair ever but reverse all of your

  1. Solution for hair loss caused by gut bacteria imbalances

Hair loss, while somewhat based on genetics, is largely influenced by your diet, lifestyle, and environment. Hair follicles that are subjected to malnutrition, inflammation, and environmental pollutants cannot sustain hair growth activity and, as a result, die off. Probiotics that are supplemented into the diet feature the unique ability to trigger a positive immune and metabolic reaction, enhancing the performance of both. As a result, your body is better equipped to fight off environmental pathogens, reduce and eliminate inflammation, and promote nutrient uptake. All three of these features will dramatically improve your hair health.  Taking the RIGHT strains of probiotics and eating at least one fermented meal, snack or drink per day will dramatically increase your odds of increasing thickness, boosting hair strand population and overall hair growth. STRAINS MATTER…I’ve tried many probiotics on clients and myself over the years and THIS IS THE ONE I recommend most, and have seen near miracles with.

STUDY AKA NERD ALERT:  Studies show that probiotics also have the power to increase the number of hairs that grow! A study conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology had scientists feeding probiotic-enriched yogurt to some mice while keeping another group on a normal diet. At the conclusion of the study, the mice who were fed the probiotic yogurt showed a dramatic increase in active hair follicles and overall body hair.

We take your health and your hair very seriously. Being, hair loss is one of the most common, non-threatening medical conditions around the world, we get it that you want your locks to look lovely, and it doesn’t discriminate gender. For men, Androgenetic Alopecia, or male pattern baldness, is responsible for more than 95% of hair loss. Two thirds of men will go through some level of hair loss by the time they turn 35. 1 Believe it or not, women make up 40% of those suffering from hair loss. One in four women will experience some form of hair loss including thinning.  Put simply: Hair loss, while not dangerous, can be emotionally overwhelming.
